Randy Ingram - The Road Ahead

Ok, so we all know that my musical tastes go all over the spectrum. I will have days where I listen to Willie Nelson, Yanni and Opeth all in the same day. I know, I'm a mess. You may think that I like, well, anything. You are completely wrong. For as much music that I love and crave, there is just as much that I loathe. I will not get into that list as I'm in high spirits tonight and I only want to focus on what is great and making me smile lately. A few weeks back I was invited to a Jazz concert by an old friend who has been in music ever since we were together in elementary school. Since then, Randy has moved up the talent ladder and has ended up being a celebrated artist. Upon receiving the invitation I decided to see what kinds of music I could find, if any, by Randy. I hopped on iTunes and found that Randy had released an album. I gave it the quick 30 second scan and dug it immediately. After owning the album for about 2 weeks now, I can firmly say that this is truly genius. If you have any interest in Jazz music, I highly recommend, no, insist you pick this album up. I just hope that Randy has some follow up goodness soon.

Gap Logo Fail

Everyone has an opinion on this one, it seems. While, at first, I hated the new look of the Gap logo, now I'm not so sure. People hate change. I usually hate new logos when I am attached or accustomed to the old one. Most of the designers I know do as well well. Apple has shifted their logo and branding a few times and I've always been resistant. Over time, I get used to it and realize that a logo does not define a brand. It is always much more than that. With that in mind, I like that the Gap was trying to do something different and try and redefine itself. What I don't like at all is that they went back on their decision so quickly and let "the community" define who they are. Lame. I really feel bad for the agency that was responsible for the rebranding as well. Man, they must feel awful right now. In any case, I'm sure they still got paid a ton.

Sometimes I see a music video and just say WOW. This is one of those times. I'm not sure if it's brilliant or awful. One thing is for sure, I'm pretty sure that I will probably be having nightmares about these characters. I can see the band going back to the director or creative director countless times and saying "it's just not weird enough yet". In the end, I think they nailed it.
